Belated Korean Honeymoon Part 1 - Jeju Island

My husband and I went on our Belated Korean Honeymoon a few weeks ago and returned this passed Sunday. The honeymoon started off on the island of Jeju.
When we planned the beginning of our honeymoon in Jeju we had to consider multiple things which I will go into detail.

1. Budget - Our budget for our entire trip was $4000.
2. Travel - Air and Public
3. Type of accommodation - AirBnB and hotel
4. Location - Jeju, Busan, Incheon, Seoul
5. Ambience - Romantic, Functional, Comfortable, and Adventure

1. Budget
As I mentioned a little earlier, $4000 was our budget for our entire trip so we had to figure out our expenses for our trip to Jeju and to our next destination. The following categories will have details with regard to researching in relations to the budget and our selection for each category.

2. Travel - Air, Public transportation, Rental Car/Scooter, Taxi, Ferry, Train
  • Travel to Jeju Island our options were:
    • First, we considered taking the KTX bullet train from the Incheon International Airport to Busan and taking a ferry round trip to Jeju Island - Total travel time was tentatively going to be more than a day and a half.
    • Second, we considered taking a plane one way from Incheon Airport to Jeju Island and then later take another one way plane to Busan and stay a few days in Busan before returning to Seoul. - Total travel time would have been 3 hours.
    • Third, we considered taking a plane round trip from Incheon Airport to Jeju Island and then later taking the KTX bullet train to Busan. - Total travel time was going to be about 7 hrs.
  • Traveling around Jeju Island our options were:
    • Public transportation - the T money card (a versatile card that you charge up and use for transportation and certain store purchases)
    • Taxi
    • Renting a car or scooter
After much research and by process of elimination, we had to go with the third plan.
Reason: we were unable to purchase tickets with a bargain price that we had initially found because we had to have a Korean credit card, so it eliminated the first and second plan.
Transportation around the island, we used Public Transportation with the T-money card.
We could not rent a car or scooter because we did not have an international driver's license and renting a car or scooter would have put us over budget.

B. Food - Delivery, Restaurant, Snacks at conveient stores, street food
  • We planned to try street food most of the time because we were told by those who visited that street food vendors were common.
While we were in Jeju, we ended up eating at a variety of restaurants, delivery as well as buying snacks at a local bakery. We tried delivery food while we were in Jeju from Ddang Ddang Chicken. Check out our Youtube video for our review.

C. Accommodations - Hotel, Motel, AirBnB, 24 hour Saunas
  • First, we considered hotels around one of the large cities which a decent room averaged $90 to $300 per night via travel websites (i.e. hotels.com and orbitz)
  • Second, we considered motels which averaged around $30 to $100.
  • Third, we considered AirBnB which averaged around the same amount as the motels, but there were a variety of types of rooms which required a little research.
  • Fourth, we also thought about 24 hour saunas that were supposedly around Jeju Island. We were told by those that had gone that it was about $10 per night.
We went with the third plan of AirBnB in Jeju because we felt that unless we rented a car, saunas that would have been more affordable would be difficult. Motels did not look as enticing and Hotels would have put us way over our budget.

D. Entertainment - Movie, Shows, Unique Theme Parks, Shopping
  • We were considering entrance fees for theme parks that we were planning on.
My husband and I ended up going to one theme park, LOVELAND and  hiking on Mt. Halla.
We had a great time during our mini trip to Jeju Island.
I will be sharing more soon. In the meantime, check out the video links above, Subscribe and Comment!
