Discovery with History: Murphy Bed

Hello beautiful people!
It has been some time since I have put up any blogs. I noticed something about myself recently where I think something is a new idea, but realize that they actually have been around for some time. My latest discovery with history is the Murphy bed.

The Murphy bed aka wall bed was created by a bachelor who lived in San Francisco in 1884, William L. Murphy. He lived in a cramped studio apartment and at the time, men and women socializing in a room with a bed was a social taboo. So instead of trying to maneuver around furniture (including the bed) within the small apartment, he devised a design to be able to put away the bed while not in use.

After experimenting with various designs, in the early 1900’s, Murphy’s idea was patented and the Murphy bed was in production. Murphy bed sales rapidly increased as city life became gained popularity, and allowing the use of the space in a small apartment to its full potential.

Since starting the company to create the Murphy beds, the production fluctuated over the last century and originally installed in a closet, today’s Murphy bed models are sold customized with cabinets, bookshelves, desks, and more. This space-saving furniture is a great solution for adults in various situations.

SO... the Murphy bed was part of my space saving research which you can see more detail on my new series of posts about "New decisions".

If you need some space and are a "do it yourself" kind of person, it might be beneficial considering a murphy bed might be a great idea.

Thanks for reading!
